The World's Largest Single Certified Low-Carbon Stainless Steel Order in History Signed

The World's Largest Single Certified Low-Carbon Stainless Steel Order in History Signed

2026-03-24

PrometalBakli, a Greek stainless steel and tinplate processing service provider, has made history by signing the world's largest single certified low-carbon stainless steel order, purchasing 3,500 tons of Circle Green products from Outokumpu.

Circle Green is distinguished from traditional stainless steel by its core feature: carbon dioxide emissions of less than one ton per ton of steel. This achievement is made possible through the use of a high proportion of recycled raw materials, carefully selected low-emission alloying elements, and the exclusive use of low-carbon electricity in key production processes. Compared with the global industry average, its carbon emissions can be reduced by up to 93%, while its corrosion resistance and mechanical properties remain fully consistent with those of traditional stainless steel.

In addition to this initial order, the two parties have established a long-term supply partnership:

By 2026, Circle Green will account for more than one-third of PrometalBakli’s annual stainless steel procurement, and thereafter, all stainless steel purchased by PrometalBakli from Outokumpu will be Circle Green low-carbon products.

Given that certified low-carbon stainless steel has not yet been widely adopted in its core markets, PrometalBakli has chosen to take early action, targeting customers in sectors such as elevator manufacturers, industrial equipment producers, and export-oriented clients—areas expected to become the main drivers of future demand for low-carbon stainless steel.
